Light Paint App FAQ

Common questions about our simple light painting app for beginners

Getting Started

What is Light Paint App?

Light Paint App is a simplified version of our popular TimeLapsed app, designed specifically for beginners. It focuses on three core features: light painting, timelapse creation, and photo capture - without the overwhelming complexity of advanced photography apps.

How is Light Paint App different from TimeLapsed?

Light Paint App is much simpler! While TimeLapsed has advanced features like rocket launch tracking, complex manual controls, and professional editing tools, Light Paint App focuses only on the essentials: easy light painting, simple timelapses, and quick photo capture.

Is Light Paint App really beginner-friendly?

Absolutely! Light Paint App was designed with first-time users in mind. It uses smart defaults, automatic settings, and intuitive controls so you can start creating beautiful light paintings immediately without any photography experience.

Features & Usage

What is light painting?

Light painting is a photography technique where you use a light source (like a flashlight or LED) to "paint" trails of light in your photos. Light Paint App makes this easy by automatically blending frames together as you move the light around.

What equipment do I need?

Just your iPhone and any light source! You can use a flashlight, LED strip, phone flashlight, or even sparklers. Light Paint App works with any moving light source to create beautiful trails.

How does the simple timelapse feature work?

Unlike complex timelapse apps, Light Paint App automatically calculates the best settings for your scene. Just tap record, and it handles the interval timing, stabilization, and video creation for you.

Can I share my light paintings on social media?

Yes! Light Paint App includes built-in sharing to Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and other social platforms. You can also save directly to your camera roll.

Camera & Light Painting

Why is the screen white when the camera is open?

This happens when using light painting mode in bright environments. The shutter is set to capture light trails, so bright light overwhelms the sensor. You'll see an Ambient Light Sensor warning when this occurs. To fix this: move to a darker environment, or switch to a different mode until you're ready for light painting.

Why does the camera view lag and look blurry?

This is normal for light painting! The camera uses a 1-second shutter speed (the maximum on iPhone) to capture light trails. The blur and lag you see is the live preview of this slow shutter effect - it's showing you how the light is being captured over that full second. This is exactly how light painting works!

What's the best environment for light painting?

Light painting works best in dark or dimly lit environments. The darker the environment, the more your light trails will stand out. Indoor rooms with lights off, outdoor spaces at night, or shaded areas work perfectly. Avoid bright sunlight or well-lit rooms.

Which iPhone camera should I use?

Light Paint App automatically selects the best camera for light painting - typically the Ultra Wide camera. This camera supports the manual settings needed for proper light trails. The app handles all the technical details, so you can focus on creating!

What light sources work best?

Any moving light source works! Popular options include: LED strips, flashlights, phone flashlights, glow sticks, sparklers, LED toys, or even candles. Brighter lights create more vivid trails, while colored lights add variety to your paintings.

Any tips for my first light painting?

Start simple! 1) Find a dark room, 2) Use a single light source like a flashlight, 3) Press record and move the light slowly to draw shapes, 4) Try writing your name or drawing a heart, 5) Review and adjust - if it's too bright, move the light faster. Light Paint App makes it easy to experiment!

How can I save battery during light painting sessions?

Light painting can use battery quickly. Tips: 1) Start with a full charge, 2) Lower screen brightness, 3) Close other apps, 4) Use airplane mode if you don't need connectivity, 5) Take breaks between recordings. The app is optimized for efficiency, but longer sessions will drain battery faster.
